The Owners
Chef John Patrick and Marcy Telfer are the husband and wife team behind and the heart of both The Neon House and Chef by Design Catering. With almost two decades of serving Southeastern Virginia with exquisite cuisine and exceptional service, The Neon House is a natural evolution of their successful business and the culmination of a lifelong dream to have their own venue in Hampton Roads.
The Team
The team at The Neon House and Chef by Design is an eclectic mix of event professionals with a vast knowledge of experience in their respective fields. Each member of our team brings with them a valuable skill set and a heart to serve. We treat each event as if it was our own and consider it an honor to be chosen to serve each of our clients and their guests.
The Neon District
The NEON District is home to a new wave of passion and creativity in downtown. NEON, or New Energy Of Norfolk, draws from the neighborhood’s history with the automobile industry as it moves into a new and vibrant future. Beginning with the city’s first Better Block demonstration in 2013, the NEON has become Norfolk’s ground zero for experiments in culture and community.

As Norfolk’s first official arts district, NEON is home to long-time cultural institutions like the Chrysler Museum of Art and Harrison Opera House as well as studio-based ventures like d’Art Center and the Rutter Family Art Foundation, all providing artists a place to make, create and show. Within a few short blocks you can see a muralist at work, take in an improv comedy performance at Push Comedy Theater, watch a live glass-working demonstration, shop for unique home goods, get a tattoo or dine out at an eclectic restaurant.
